What is coaching?

The word “coach” originated in the village of Kocs, Hungary, where horse-drawn coaches were invented. Literally, a coach is a mechanism designed to move a person from where they are to where they want to go. Co-designed by you the Client and me the Coach, our coaching relationship is a creative alliance focused on moving from the now you have to the future you want. I will help you assess your current level of productivity and satisfaction, establish goals for increased performance and quality, and create a structure and outlook that leads to an improved sense of balance, well-being, and success.

With two decades of experience in human behavior, organizational management, and the creative arts, I merge psychology, strategy, and imagination to shift beliefs and behaviors, generate optimism and outcomes, and help individuals and organizations define and achieve success. Through my many years observing and participating in human behavior, I have come to realize that it is irrational to expect everyone (including ourselves) to be rational. We are emotional, reactionary, and contradictory creatures. Building upon the ABC’s of coaching: Accountability, Balance & Choice, you will create a life that aligns with your values and brings you the most value.

Accountability

As your coach I will hold you responsible for creating a life of meaning, purpose, and productivity. As the client, you give me permission to call you on your ‘stuff’ and get you back on track when you lose focus, when you are losing focus, wasting time, and sabotaging your potential.

Balance

Flow between the different aspects of life with ease.

Balance isn’t about equalizing attention across life’s facets (work, family, health, finances, etc.) all at once. Balance is navigating the flow between them in so they complement rather than compete with each other. Think of balance, not as a static beam but a seesaw, moving in tandem yet distinct rhythms. The aim isn’t fixing the center; it’s maintaining control while gracefully swaying between extremes.

Choice

Make value-based decisions that yield a sense of power and purpose.

Newton’s first law of motion asserts that moving objects continue unless impacted by an external force. This explains why many life changes are initiated by crises—job loss, breakups, or illness. Coaching proactively shapes the life you desire through the power of choice. Coaching will broaden your outlook and provide the options, tools, structure, and confidence to attain what seemed distant before.

The Values’ Alphabet

The Values’ Alphabet starts with Accountability, not only because A is the first letter of the alphabet, but because it requires you to define the standards you are willing to account for. In other words, you get to determine what you want to do, who you want to be, and the impact you want to have. This autonomy (another value starting with A), like everything, has its pros and cons. The advantage is that you have control. The disadvantage is that you are responsible for the results.
